The past week was a celebration of women in many ways. As Fashion Week wrapped in the City of Light on Tuesday (bringing us autumn/winter 2017 collections from Stella McCartney , chanel,louis vattern and Miu Miu), Wednesday saw the world unite to mark International women's day. From London to New York, Indonesia to Melbourne, women, men and children gathered in a show of solidarity and to campaign for equality in every form and forum.
As one of the most prominent campaigners for gender equality, it was no surprise thatEmma Watson's words resonated around the world this week, when she told BBC: "Feminism is about giving women choice. Feminism is not a stick with which to beat other women. I really don’t know what my tits have to do with it. It’s very confusing." She was referring to a Vanity Fair shoot in which she posed for an image (shot by Tim Walker) wearing a bolero part covering her breasts. kristin Stewart  also made a strong case for the need for equality and understanding in modern-day society. Having unveiled a dramatic new buzz cut at the premiere of her new film Personal Shopper on Wednesday (heralded a triumph by Vogue), the actress spoke in support of the LGBT community during an interview with The Guardian on Friday. "The whole issue of sexuality is so grey," she said. "I’m just trying to acknowledge that fluidity, that greyness, which has always existed. But maybe only now are we allowed to start talking about it.”

In fashion news this week: Chanel announced its sponsorship of France's first fashion museum; London-based fashion house Sibling confirmed that it is taking a hiatus after voluntarily appointing liquidators; the Olsens, and The Row founders, settled their well-publicised intern lawsuit; LVMH had a big week, with news that it is to open an e-commerce platform for Bon Marché, as well as open another cultural hotspot on the outskirts of Paris designed by the Fondation Louis Vuitton architect Frank Gehry; Saint Laurent was asked by the French advertising watchdog to modify its ads after complaints; and Chloé finally confirmed - after much speculation - that Natacha Ramsay-Levi will succeed Clare Waight Keller as creative director at Chloé.

On the celebrity front it was a mixed bag:Adele revealed to the world that she is, in fact, married to her long-term partner, Simon Konecki; Maggie Rizer announced she is expecting her fourth child; Leonardo DiCaprio unveiled his latest philanthropic venture (involving frozen seafood); Scarlett Johansson silenced speculation when she released a statement asserting that she will not be commenting on her divorce or custody proceedings concerning her daughter Rose; Nicole Kidman explained that Oscar clap; and the man accused of obsessively stalking Taylor Swift was arrested in New York.

The week ended with the April issue ofVogue hitting newsstands, heralding the start of a new season. From the coats to buy now to the colour combinations to note, the new mood is an optimistic one.
